Larry's Leadership Experience

ü Six years as Mayor of Rockville

Larry was first elected Mayor in November 2001 (with 57% of the vote) and reelected in November 2003 (with 61% of the vote) and November 2005 (with 71% of the vote). He worked hard to move the revitalization of Rockville's town center forward and to better manage growth in order to improve Rockville's quality of life. Larry made it a priority to forge much stronger relationships with the county, state and federal governments in order to help achieve Rockville's goals. Under Larry's leadership, the city government earned a AAA credit rating, which is very rare among cities of Rockville's size, and made important progress on a range of other issues. ü Five years on the Rockville Planning Commission

Larry's record as a planning commissioner demonstrated his thoughtfulness and his commitment to: balancing growth with road and school capacities, putting residents’ interests ahead of developers' interests, strengthening neighborhoods, and protecting the environment. ü Key role in the development of the Town Center Master Plan

As chairperson of a town center master plan advisory committee, Larry developed and advanced the plan (adopted in 2001) for a new world-class, pedestrian-friendly town center with restaurants, shops, residential housing, and ample parking. This is the same vision that Larry worked to achieve as Mayor. To learn more about Rockville's revitalized Town Center, click here.

ü Proven track record as a senior executive and business leader

Prior to running for Mayor in 2001, Larry was the managing director of the Corporate Leadership Council, a business unit of the Corporate Executive Board, which is a Washington, DC-based firm providing business management advice and best practices research to major companies worldwide. He played a key role in launching the business unit in 1993 and in growing it to over 100 employees and $30 million in annual revenue.

ü Results-oriented with key management skills

As a consultant with Mercer Management Consulting, Larry helped clients in the US and Australia achieve multi-million dollar operational improvements. He began his career with GE Information Services in Rockville and London, with responsibilities in financial analysis and budget management.
