A lot was accomplished
while I was mayor to make Rockville an even stronger community. Most of what I
had set out to accomplish when I first ran for mayor was achieved:
- Our town center is now a vibrant, wonderful place.
- Growth and development are now
much better controlled and managed as a result of new measures that protect our
community and quality of life.
- Neighborhoods were strengthened as a result of valued investments in parks,
playgrounds, and community centers.
- Safety was improved as a result of the deployment of speed cameras, hiring of
additional police officers, and investments to improve pedestrian safety.
- The city government became more responsive and effective than ever, with a
highly capable management team now providing the creativity, energy and effort
needed to make our community truly world-class.
- Property taxes were reduced four times as a result of two property tax rate
cuts, the institution of a $100 per household per year property tax credit, and
a significant expansion of the property tax credit program for lower-income
households.
- The city's finances and financial management became stronger than ever, as
evidenced by the "triple A" bond rating the city government received in 2007
from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s.
As a result of these and other achievements, Rockville is now fast becoming one
of the nation’s very best places to live and work.
